A Scrubs Tragedy: The Zamora Joggers by Figs
My Zamora joggers in graphite were more than just a pair of scrubs. They were a symbol of my medical career, a testament to my resilience, and a constant companion throughout some of the most challenging times of my life.
I purchased these scrubs six years ago, when I was a fresh-faced emergency medicine resident. The soft, comfortable fabric and the perfect fit immediately caught my eye. I had always been a fan of Figs, just never pulled the trigger to purchase them. Immediately I could tell scrubs offered the ideal blend of style and functionality.
Over the years, my Zamora joggers became an integral part of my daily routine. I wore them to work, and even to the occasional post-shift outing. They were always there for me, no matter what
During my time as chief resident in a busy ER, my Zamora joggers were put to the test. The COVID-19 pandemic hit our hospital hard, and we were all working long hours and under immense stress. My scrubs were there to keep me comfortable and protected, even as I faced the challenges of caring for patients with a deadly virus.
My pregnancy was another time when my Zamora joggers proved invaluable. The adjustable waistband and the stretchy fabric made them incredibly comfortable to wear, even as my body changed. I was grateful to have a piece of clothing that I could rely on during such a significant life event.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. A few weeks ago, I had to make the difficult decision to throw away my beloved first ever Zamora joggers. It wasn’t because they were worn out or defective; in fact, they were still in excellent condition. But I had made a fatal mistake: I had left a pen in the zipper pocket before washing them.
When I put my joggers in the washer, the pen exploded, leaving behind a blotchy mess that was impossible to remove. I tried everything I could to clean them, but the stain was just too stubborn. In the end, I had to admit defeat and toss them in the trash.
Days later, as I watched my first ever pair of Figs hauled off in a large yellow garbage truck, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness. Even though I now have more sets of Figs scrubs in almost every color and style, this set was my first. -And they had been such a loyal companion for so many years.
The sentimental value that my old joggers held is irreplaceable. They were more than just a piece of clothing; they were a symbol of my growth, my resilience, and my commitment to the medical profession. And for that, I will always be grateful.
Tell me more about your experience with Figs or any other scrubs brand. Have you had a piece of clothing that surprisingly meant so much to you?
